WHAT IS Bolts?
Named after Usain Bolt (the most appropriate name in the history of sport), our Bolts class is our high-intensity sprint class that will really push you to your maximum. Using a combination of intervals and longer, steady state sprints, this is not a session for the untrained or uninitiated. You will be asked to push yourself to your speed limit and possibly beyond, in a session that will test your anaerobic and aerobic conditioning as well as your power output. Sessions are outdoors and on grass, so impact is mitigated as much as possible. Obviously, you’ll need good footwear and plenty to drink!

WHY SHOULD I TRY Bolts?
If you want to test yourself and see how far you can push, Bolts is the session for you. High-intensity exercise, such as sprinting, has so many benefits that it is simply not possible to list them all here. However, the thrill of the challenge may certainly be one of your motivators.
If burning as many calories as you possibly can sounds appealing, getting aerobically fitter and improving your body composition also appeals to you than you should absolutely give Bolts a try. If it sounds a little intimidating, please don’t be worried, the session can be tailored to your current fitness level, however this is a high-intensity class, so be aware that it is not a beginner class.
When should I try a Bolts class?
Our Bolts classes will be especially helpful and appropriate for you if you are really looking to take that next step up in your aerobic fitness levels. You’ve been smashing out the Cardio Power and Mustangs classes and need an extra push.
Or if you have a specific running goal that you’d like to achieve and improving your running efficiency is important for you, this class would be perfect. Even if you are a semi-seasoned exerciser and just feel that you want to do all that you can to change your body composition as quickly as you can by burning as many calories as you can, this class is certainly the one for you!

Three reasons to try a Bolts class

Increase your energy expenditure
You will not burn more energy in any session than you will in a Bolts class. The effects of sprinting are that your heart rate will really sky-rocket, you’ll breathe heavily and deep. The effects of this are simple – your body will be burning through calories like crazy. Interestingly, mainly carbs, but your overall energy expenditure will be huge.

Anti-ageing
We’ll keep this simple, but high-intensity exercise relies very heavily on the little powerhouse of your cells, the mitochondria, to really get busy. And these little cellular powerhouses, when engaged and called into action, really work to keep us young and feeling great. Think of sprinting as the body’s natural anti-ageing elixir!

Improve your metabolism
When you engage in very high-intensity exercise, you create a deficit of energy that needs to be paid back once you have finished your exercise. It is kind of like your body can’t keep up with the demand when you are exercising. This means that your metabolic rate will stay elevated for hours, even after you have finished your session!

I’ve been training at Fitness Playground and the Bunker for over 18 months now. Apart from strength training, I’ve loved working on improving callisthenics skills with my trainer Dave Marsh. It’s really helped with mobility, movement and strength, and overall well being. What I love most about the Bunker is the sense of community.

Our aim is to be the number 1 provider of Exercise Physiology and Personal Training in Australia. This is not a small task – there are a lot of providers across our industry.
